We Are
Centers for Independent Living
LIFE and Disability Connections (DC) are Centers for Independent Living (CILs). We are not facilities where people with disabilities live, but rather, we are strong advocates that make community living possible! Our Staff and Board are composed of individuals with disabilities, who mentor and empower our peers by providing services and resources that enhance daily living. We actively challenge stereotypes and advocate for full equality and inclusion.

Our Philosophy
Independent Living (IL) is more than a concept—it's a Movement and a Philosophy rooted in civil rights, self-determination, equality, and full inclusion. At its core, independent living means that people with disabilities have the same rights, responsibilities, and opportunities as everyone else. It’s about living with dignity and respect, making personal choices, and having control over one’s own life.
Independent Living Services
Our
We offer the core services of information and referral, IL skills training, peer support, self/systems advocacy, youth transition, and transition to community-based living from nursing homes and other institutions. These services empower people with disabilities to access resources, build skills, and live independently. We also provide auxiliary services such as health and fitness, employment support, and assistive technology.
